Walk to End Alzheimer’s set for Sept. 27

The Alzheimer's Association invites Wausau area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Marathon Park, Shelter #5, 1201 Stewart Ave., Wausau. The event will open at 9 a.m., with the opening ceremony beginning at 10:10 a.m., followed by the walk at 10:30 a.m.

The event will feature music by DJ Cookie to keep the energy high throughout the day. Participants can also join pre-walk warm-ups led by Bantr Fitness to get energized and ready to walk.

The walk also features the inspiring Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants cany colorful flowers, each representing a personal connection to the disease.

More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, one of the nation’s leading causes of death Over 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care for those affected. In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, and tens of thousands of caregivers are supporting them evety day. In Marathon County alone, over 3,199 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia.

Exciting progress in both treatments and early detection has brought new hope to millions of families.

Breakthroughs in medical science, fueled by decades of research, advocacy, and community support, are helping people receive answers sooner and ben-efit from new ways to slow the progression of the disease.

These advances strengthen our determination to keep moving forward toward a world without dementia.

This year, the Alzheimer’s Association welcomes Bill Schroeder, former Milwaukee Brewers player and longtime television color commentator, as the Honorary Statewide Chair for all 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Wisconsin.
