Colby Community Library September Update
Stop in the library during September to sign-up for a free library card. Children and adults will find a library card is the key to borrowing free books, magazines, movies, audiobooks, music CDs and more. An assortment of library promotional stickers will also be given away during the month.
Book Clubs
The first book club sessions of the 20252026 season will began Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Members will discuss the book “Camino Ghosts” by John Grisham. Book club members do not need to purchase books. The library staff orders copies to pick up each month.
Craft and Hobby
Join crafters and hobbyists on the third Friday of each month for Craft and Hobby night. Bring individual projects to work on in the company others. The first evening will be Friday, September 19. Doors open at 4 p.m.
Poker
Adult/teen movie or book Poker cards will be accepted until December 30. There is still time to read books or view movies for a chance to win Abby/Colby Chamber certificates with the best poker hands.
Take and Make Crafts
“Take and Make” free craft kits for children continue to be available. Several crafts to hone “back-to-school” skills are featured. There are also creative mind stretcher activities for adults.
Story Times
Pre-school children (and their caregivers), ages two and up, are invited to join the group for stories, songs, poems, activities, and crafts. The story time sessions are Friday morning at 10 a.m. beginning September 12 through December 12 (with Thanksgiving week off). Stop by the library or call 715-223-2000 to sign up.
1000-4000 Books
The beginning of the school year is a great time to start a child’s reading adventure with the CCL’s 1000 Books Before (the end of) Kindergarten program. Reading binders are available to record books checked out from the CCL. At each 100 books completed level, children choose a prize. When reaching the 1000 book level, a travel reading pillow and book is awarded. We also have 2000, 3000, and 4000 Books Before (the end of) Kindergarten binders also available. All these programs promote child literacy and help children hear the recommended 21,000 words each day.
Adult Education Classes
Throughout the year, the CCL will host educational classes for adults on the second Tuesday (various topics) and second Thursday (technology) of the month. Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room at the CCL, a presentation on Medicare will be led by Clark County Elder Benefit Specialist, Terri Esselman.
On Thursday, September 11 at 2 p.m., Todd Meyer from CVTC will be teaching classes on technology. Participants are encouraged to bring in any devices they would like to learn more about or simply attend the class for information.

Adult Creative Classes
Register September 15-October 3 (or until filled) for a class hosted by the Friends of the Colby Community Library. “Leaves of Change: Tree of Life” is the theme of a suncatcher using glass and resin. The class will be taught by Brandee Benson on Saturday, October 11 beginning at 10 a.m. The cost of the class is $60. There are 20 spots available. Light refreshments will be included. Call the library to register and arrange for payment.
Gangsters in Wisconsin?
Chad Lewis, Wisconsin author, will give a presentation on Gangsters in Wisconsin on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the CCL’s Community Room. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Colby Community Library and the Colby Rural Arts Museum. Financial sponsorship is by Mary and Allen Singstock. The public is invited to this free event.
Computer Envelope Opportunity
To help fund new patron computers at the CCL, a Computer Envelope Opportunity is being offered. Choose an envelope and fill it with the amount on the front. All donations will be used to pay for the replacement computers.
Fall/Winter Hours
The hours at the CCL are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 12-7 p.m. The CCL will be closed on Saturday and Sunday for the fall and winter.
