Ellenbecker Barn Burns
The barn on the George Ellenbecker farm, 10 miles east and one-half mile south of Abbotsford, was completely destroyed by fire. The fire was thought to have been caused by spontaneous combustion. The loss was estimated at $10,000.
Hessel’s Body Shop to Open
Lawrence Hessel, formerly employed at the Motor Inn Garage, will open a body and fender repair shop in the D-X station, located east of the Abby Café. Hessel also plans to sell used cars.

Lions Club Golfers
A team from the Abbotsford Lions Club has taken top place in the Wisconsin Rapids Lions invitational golf match for the past three years and now keeps the trophy. Members are Jim Rebne, Harry Grondine, Mike Greaser and Bob Stacke.
AFS student from Germany
Abby’s AFS student, Birgett Von Maltzahn, Germany, is getting acquainted with her American family. She will live with the Leonard Bauer family, Route 1, Abbotsford and be sisters with Shelly and Elizabeth while she attends Abbotsford High School.

Rueden anniversary
George and Elaine Rueden, longtime Abbotsford residents, celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Sword in Colby. The couple owned the Coast to Coast store in Abbotsford for 26 years.
St. Mary’s Festival
Beautiful weather blessed all those who participated in the annual St. Mary’s Festival activities. The day included a Polka Mass, a silent auction, petting zoo, and chicken and pork dinner.
