Bids are back for replacing the roof of the boiler room, at Lake Holcombe School, with one accepted, Aug. 18, during a board of education meeting. There was a bid from RTS Roofing, Inc., for $76,388, as well as one from Paul’s Sheet Metal, for $67,086, which was the chosen estimate. Paul’s promises they can still get to the roof by late fall, with the money to pay for the project coming out of Fund 46, for maintenance. “That’ll be nice to have that done,” said district administrator Kurt Lindau. The board also agreed on a memorandum of understanding (MOU), with the Town of Lake Holcombe, to evacuate the students to the hall, in the event of an emergency that requires them to leave the school building. The MOU will take effect, once the town board approves it at their next meeting. “Thank you for housing us,” said Lindau to town chairman/ school board president Brian Guthman. “I hope we never have to go there.” Also approved, was the school emergency operations plan, with updated staff names and law enforcement contacts. The school is required to update the plan every three years, but Lindau prefers to do so annually. “I think it’s prudent to do so,” he said. The transportation contract with Riteway Bus Service, through 2030, was also approved, as was the purchase of LP from Thaler Oil, in an amount not to succeed $1.47. Members also approved the hire of assistant high school volunteer football coach Ed Hattamer; assistant high school volleyball coach Allison Golat-Hattamer; middle school football coach Vince Leasum; and middle school volleyball coach Pam Luethi. The board also accepted $300, from Leif Tolkken, to the girls basketball program; $500 Teacher Grant, from the Lake Holcombe Lions Club, to Betsy Ketterhagen; $300 Teacher Grant, from the Lions, to Becca Abbiehl, for a field trip; and $200 Teacher Grant, from the Lions, to Laura Rudeen, for a spider/tarantula. For the next meeting, it has been moved to Monday, Sept. 22, with the time going back to fall/winter hours, of 6 p.m.
