Colby Community Library Reading Program


The Colby Community Library (CCL) “Color Your World: On Safari” summer reading program finale was held Thursday, July 24. Vicky Calmes, director at the CCL, welcomed eager readers and family members to the RCU Community Room in the library. Staff, volunteers, and 55 business donors who helped make this year’s reading program possible were thanked.
Events The CCL hosted six entertainers performing 12 shows for eager crowds: Mischief and Magic, Creature Teacher, Tom Pease, REGI Night Moves, Mischief and Magic Animal Menagerie, and Dan Kirk “The Juggler with the Yellow Shoes”. The library also hosted two Lego Build days, two Artfari days, and a Service Project week.
CCL’s Summer Stats 99 - youth and adults participated in Artfari; 116 - service project participants; 132 - readers completed an “IT” booklet; 136 - self portraits were created for Mural Wall; 188 - children shopped the Jungle of Prizes; 214 - service project crafts were completed; 263 - teen reviews entered; 318 - youth registered for SRP; 1,475 - Take and Make craft kits were distributed; 1,551 - guests enjoyed 12 shows by six entertainers; 9,621 - individual Lego pieces in the Lego Safari guessing game; and 603,226 - number of pages read in total.
Calmes commented, “The CCL’s Summer Reading Program numbers are encouraging. It is great to have the support of so many businesses and to see young readers and their families attending events, picking up crafts, and checking out books. The CCL staff and volunteers worked hard to prepare activities to keep youth reading this summer, and we think everyone who participated enjoyed the “safari”at the library.”
