Enser Is Ordained Sunday

Dennis Enser was ordained and installed as pastor of two Wisconsin Synod churches. He is pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in the Town of Day and Grace Lutheran church in the Town of Green Valley. Fast Pitch Tourney Completes First Week

This past weekend opened with a bang at the ball diamond where the first game was an extra inning ball game. In the opening round of the 3rd annual Fast Pitch Tournament, Stanley’s Bar of Marathon and Stratford Liquor went into extra innings before Stanley’s won 4 to 3.

Father Burke To Be Ordained by Pope

Raymond L. Burke, son of Mrs. Marie Burke of Stratford will be ordained a priest on June 29, by Pope Paul VI in the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. Mrs. Burke will leave Sunday for Rome to attend the ceremonies.

Champion riders

Janet Schmidt and Sara Schmidt, mother and daughter from rural Stratford, earned gold medals at the Badger State Games held over the weekend. They both competed in Dressage events held at Deerfield near Madison. Both are members of the Marshfield Saddle Club.

FFA Convention

The members of the Stratford FFA attended the 71st annual State FFA convention in Madison. Aaron Greenburg was named as a member of the State FFA Band. Chosen as part of the State FFA Choir were Lance Syring and Mari Lang. The three musicians as well as Dana Tackes will play and perform at the State Fair in West Allis in August. Stratford FFA advisor Becky Wirkus chaperoned the group.

Sutter is Citizen of Year

George Sutter was named Citizen of the Year at the Athens Lions banquet held at St. Anthony’s school hall. Sutter has been instrumental in bringing about the ambulance rescue squad in the village and was presented with a plaque by Alfred Habeck.

Attend Convention

Members of the Edgar chapter of the Future Farmers of America recently attended the state convention in Green Lake as delegates and chorus members. Members attending were Kevin Christiansen, Charles Lang, Duane Zietlow and Kevin King.

Construction to start at Marathon

Construction is expected to begin July 1 on the replacement of the roof of the Marathon High School. The estimated cost of the project is $110,000. The contract is with Maurer Roofing in Marshfield.

Edgar Community Band

The premiere concert of the Edgar Community band’s fifth season was held in the Edgar High West Gymnasium due to the threat of rain. The 32-piece band, including both Edgar High School students, alumni and community members, played under the direction of Dennis Webb. Concert-goers were able to feast on homemade pie and ice cream provided by the Edgar Womens Club.

Science achievement

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Holly Beck, Marathon, has been named a United States national award winner in Science. Beck, who is a 2000 graduate of Marathon High School, was nominated for this national award by Paul Fredrickson, a teacher at the school.

2000 Edgar queen

Holly Mroczenski, the daughter of Kevin and Gale Mroczenski, was crowned Edgar Jaycees Homecoming Queen at the Edgar Firemen’s celebration.
