ATHENS
The Senior Citizens card group met on June 19 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall.
Three games of Sheepshead were played. Aaron Totzke won first place and Andy Hoeft came in second in the first game. Steve Klockziem won first and Alvira Henrichs came in second in the second game. Low score was Wil Strack.
Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.
Chalk Week
All ages are invited to the Athens Branch Library to get creative dur-ing Chalk Week and transform the sidewalks into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Stop by during open hours from June 30 to July 5. All supplies will be provided; no registration required. Call 715-257-7292 for more information.
Maple Grove School
The May meeting of the Maple Grove Governance Board was called to order and the pledge was recited. All members were present.
Minutes of the April meeting and the April Record Review article were approved. All voted aye.
Recognition was given by Robin H to the PTO for their gifts and meals and treats for Teacher Appreciation. Reed H then read to the board a few pages out of the book “Be Kind” that the second grade has written and published.
Work started on the contract and bylaws, with members reviewing a different section at each meeting and making any revisions as needed.
There was discussion on the budget. Each school will be in charge of their own budget. This will include classroom supplies, office and health supplies, reading incentives and field trips.
A representative from the playground company was at the school last week, and Revive was there doing some dirt work and the fencing company started work on the fence.
The grant budget was reviewed, and it is on track. The board made a list of projects to do if there is money left in the grant fund that needs to be used. Included on the list were the gym floor, electricity to the coop and the garden shed, a generator, lunch tables and the stage curtain.
Whole Child Learning was discussed, and all the screenings are done. Results were reviewed and parents were notified if their child needs extra help. Screening will start again in the fall.
Enrollment was discussed, and all district students were approved. As of the meeting, there will be 116 students next year.

Robin reminded the board that the newsletter is on the district page. Talent show was May 14.
Andrea talked about the maintenance audit. Jamie H has a general plan for the district and the budget for the school looks good.
FOMG budget was discussed and approved.
The PTO reported that they gave gifts, meals and treats to teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. They were working on end-of-theyear ideas.
Maple Grove Foundation Inc. supplied all the popcorn for the spring dance and one more popcorn day. They too are looking for new members.

Cassandra Riehle, a student in the College of Business at UW-Eau Claire, was named to the 2025 spring semester dean’s list. To be eligible, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.70.
The following students were named to the 2025 spring semester dean’s list at UW-La Crosse: Dayne Diethelm, exercise and sport science - physical, adapted and school health education; Brooks Kraus, exercise and sport science-pre-professional track; and Nora Trojanowski, clinical laboratory science. To be eligible for the list, students must have earned at least a 3.5 semester grade point average and carried a minimum of 12 credits.
Family Story Time
Children ages 6 and under and their parents and caregivers are invited to the Edgar Branch Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month for Family Story Time. Enjoy learning with your children through stories, songs and other literature- based activities during this 30-minute program. The next Story Time will be July 1. Skylee Manecke was named to the honor roll and Ian Riehle was named to the dean’s list for the 2025 spring semester at UWOshkosh. The grade-point average requirement for the honor roll is 3.3 and 3.75 for the dean’s list.
