Composting class

Adults are invited to learn how to compost during a free class at the Marathon City Branch Library on Monday, June 23, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Janell Wehr, horticulture educator with Extension Marathon County, will present on soil texture, pH levels, the basics of fertilizing, and how to get started with composting. Composting is the process of taking organic materials such as yard clippings, food scraps, etc., and breaking them down into nutrient-rich compost that can be used to improve soil and plant health. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required by visiting the library website or calling 715-261-7230.

Patriotic Art Fair

Alois Dreikosen Unit 469 of the American Legion Auxiliary will present its Patriotic Art Fair premier exhibit in conjunction with the concerts in the park sponsored by the Marathon Heritage Center.

Visit the Marathon City Heritage Center, The Copper Mug and Pizza Market on Tuesday, July 15, and Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 6-8 p.m. The mission of the art fair is to promote patriotism and love of country, and to think about the sacrifices made, what it means to have freedom, to bring people of all ages together, to have fun with red, white and blue, and to show spirit and pride within our community.

LEGO Block Party

Get creative with LEGO and other blocks on Friday, June 27, from 1-3 p.m. at the Marathon Branch Library. The event is free, blocks are provided, and no registration required. Call 715-443-2775 for more info.

Family Story Time

Children ages 6 and under and their parents and caregivers are invited to attend Family Story Time at the Marathon City Branch Library every Thursday this summer. Library staff will read books, sing songs, and more during this 30 to 45-minute program. The regular story time schedule may get interrupted by special events on occasion. Call 715-443-2775 for more information. The next Story Time is scheduled for 10:30 to 11 a.m. on June 26.

College notes

Jaron Gage, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and interactive media, and Griffin Treankler, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in industrial and product design, were both named to the spring 2025 dean’s list at UW-Stout.The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

The following students were recognized for achieving high grades during the spring 2025 semester at UW-Stevens Point: Stefani Chesek, high honors; Matthew Dzwonkowski, honors; Alana Hoyt, high honors; Hunter Krautkramer, honors; Madisyn Lang, highest honors; Chloe Sonnentag, highest honors; Hope Yang, honors. Fulltime undergraduates who earned grade points of 3.90 to 4.0 (4.0 equals straight A) are given highest honors. High honor citations go to those with GPAs from 3.75 to 3.89, and honor recognition is accorded to those with GPAs from 3.50 to 3.74.
