Streit breaks cousin’s school record at state
By Casey Krautkramer
Edgar junior Tucker Streit achieved his season goal of breaking his cousin and hurdling coach, Andrew Lukasko’s school record in the 300-meter hurdles of 39.26 seconds, set in 2007. Streit accomplished breaking the school record on the state track and field’s biggest stage on Saturday in La Crosse. He took third place in the 300-meter hurdles in 39.09 seconds.
“It feels amazing because I was working toward setting the school record and then I finally got it in my state race so it’s a great way to end this season,” Streit said.
Streit also took third place in the WIAA Division 3 110-meter hurdles on Saturday in 14.80 seconds. Streit was also a starting member of Edgar’s 4x400-meter relay that took fourth place at state in 3:26.56. Tigers state results
Stratford’s varsity boys track and field team had a tough state tournament last weekend. The Tigers felt they could have been in the mix to win the WIAA Division 3 state championship or defend their state runners-up finish from last season. That all changed when senior Jett Schoenherr injured his hamstring during the preliminary 100-meter dash on Friday. Although he was in pain, he still battled to run the best he could in the 100-meter dash finals and 4x100-meter relay on Saturday. He chose not to compete in the 200-meter dash finals later on Saturday.
Schoenherr took third place in the 100meter dash finals in 11.17 seconds on Saturday, although he was fully aware that had he’d been healthy he would’ve beaten state champion Paxton Kuehn of Shiocton for first place in the event. Schoenherr won the sectional 100-meter dash in 10.94 seconds and Kuehn was second in 11.06.
The Tigers’ 4x100-meter relay that included starters Schoenherr, juniors Coltan Breit and Zander Zawislan and sophomore Carter Foster took fifth place in 43.48 seconds. Alternates were juniors Austin O’Neil and Mason Miller. Stratford’s 4x200-meter relay also took fifth place in 1:30.77 and consisted of senior Brandon Knetter, Foster, Breit and Zawislan. Alternates were sophomore Austin Niehaus and Miller.
The Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay took ninth place at state in 3:28.96 and included sophomore Connor Kreft, senior Garrett Zuelke, Niehaus and Zawislan. Alternates were seniors Kaden Foster and Xander Curtice.
Stratford’s 4x800-meter relay took seventh place at state in 8:07.31 and had senior starting runners Ethan Heeg, Cooper Bosmans, Cree DeFoe and Zuelke. Alternates were senior Derek Wiese and freshman Jayden DeFoe.
Cree DeFoe took eighth place in the 3,200-meter run at state in 9:46.89. Kreft placed fourth in the triple jump with 43 feet, 9-1/2 inches. Curtice placed 13th in the high jump with five feet, 10 inches.
The Tiger boys team took 10th place at WIAA Division 3 state with 21-1/2 points.
Stratford’s girls 4x100-meter relay took eighth place at state in 50.52 seconds and included junior Dawnyel Martin, sophomore Brianna Sherden and freshmen Wynn Schoenherr and Lillian Kaiser. Sherden also placed seventh in the 200meter dash in 25.95 seconds.
