On May 22, family, friends, school faculty and board members gathered at Memories Ballroom to honor Rick Parks, who will retire at the end of June after 17 years as district administrator.
High School Principal Dave Beranek expressed gratitude for Parks’ years of service and shared how deeply he will be missed. As a meaningful tribute, Beranek presented Parks with the original application letter he submitted to the district in 1983 when applying for a teaching position— a role he held, along with coaching baseball and basketball, until 1990.
School Board President Jodi DeBroux highlighted Parks' commitment to education during his tenure. She spoke of how he led with vision, intellect, and compassion, always placing students at the heart of every decision. DeBroux noted that Parks’ leadership, dedication and heart have shaped the district in lasting ways.
She also presented him with a citation from the State of Wisconsin, commemorating his career and service to education. The citation was acknowledged and signed by Gov. Tony Evers, Sen. Cory Tomczyk, and Rep. John Spiros.
In return, Parks offered heartfelt thanks to the staff and community of Marathon for their support over the years. He shared his appreciation for a fulfilling career and expressed how fortunate he feels to have served the Marathon School District for the past 17 years.
