Medford VFW Post 5729 is sponsoring a scrap metal and other recyclables drive to help raise funds for our new building project.

From Memorial Day to Veterans Day, 2025, you can bring your scrap metal to Alter Recycling in Medford and tell them you want to donate it to the VFW New Building Fund. That's May 27th to November 11th .

During World War II, scrap metal drives were a key part of the home front effort, aiming to collect and recycle materials for the war effort. Citizens were encouraged to donate scrap metal from their homes, farms, and businesses, including items like pots, pans, farm equipment, and even metal toys.

Buckets of old nails or screws in your garage, old lawn mower or rototiller behind the shed, left over metal roofing, rain gutters, old wiring, aluminum cans, tin cans, old tools. How about that project car or motorcycle you always said you'd fix? Let's face it, it's been years, and you haven't touched it. Maybe it's time to put it to good use and donate it to the VFW new building project.

Maybe your business or farm has a bunch of junk laying around that you want to clean up. It is spring after all, why not now? It's as good a time as any.

“Your scrap metal can go a long way to supporting our veterans and their families, as well as the community at large. Recycling and scrapping metal saves energy, conserves natural resources, slows down landfill growth and creates jobs. That sounds like a win/win! Show your support for our local veterans and donate your scrap metal today,” said Jeff Hein of the Medford VFW.

For further questions on acceptable scrap material contact Alter Recycling at 715-316-4916.
