Loyal girls take 4th at conference track meet, Spencer boys 3rd
After having to reschedule the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track and Field Meet due to rainy, chilly weather last week Tuesday, the meet was hosted on Thursday afternoon, with clear skies, gusty winds, and highs topping out at about 62 degrees. Gilman High School hosted the meet, which saw several local athletes rise to the top in their events to be named conference champions, including Addysen Wolf of Loyal, Breckin Miller of Spencer, and the Spencer boys 4x100 relay team.
Athletes had to place in the top eight for their event to score points. Listed are the local athletes that did so.
Spencer Breckin Miller won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.40, won the pole vault at 12-9, and took third in the long jump at 19 feet, 4 inches (19-4). The boys 4x100m relay team placed first with a time of 45.33. Team members were Jackson Hoeper, Benjamin Felgner, Efrain Olgiun-Cano and Miller. Olguin-Cano took third in the 100m dash at 11.61, with Jackson Hoeper right on his tail, finishing fourth at 11.72. Teddy Meyer took third in the triple jump, recording a distance of 38-11.75; fourth in the 110m hurdles at 18.65; and eighth in the 300m hurdles at 49.63. Olguin-Cano also took third in the 200m dash at 24.14.
The 4x400m relay team took fourth at 4:11.75. Team members were Meyer, Mason Dieringer, Kainan Davis, and Hezekiah Duda. Reven Zschernitz took fourth in the shot put at 37-3. Benjamin Felgner took sixth in the 100 meters, with a time of 12.09. Mathers McHone took eighth in the 3,200m run at 13:01.51 and eighth in the high jump at 5-2.
The Spencer boys placed third out of eight teams, accumulating 80 points over the course of the meet. Owen-Withee won the meet with 189 points and Neillsville took second with 163.5 points.
The girls team also saw several place winners. The girls 4x400m relay team placed fourth with a time of 4:58.18, the 4x100m relay team took fifth at 58.42, and the 4x200m relay team took fifth at 2:06.08.
Caitlin Clark took sixth in three events: the 100m dash with a time of 13.74, the 200m dash with a time of 28.3, and the long jump at 15-2.75. Kaitlin Radue took sixth in the discus throw with a throw of 81-5 and eighth in the
