Ervin Boris

Ervin “Butch” Frank Boris, born on September 2, 1940, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 15, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center. He greatly loved his wife, Bev, whom they shared 61 years together, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family was everything to Butch and he loved having everyone together. Butch worked over the years in many different trades from driving gravel truck to making car parts, running the Owl’s Club to cheesemaker and maintenance at Kraft Foods, wastewater treatment for the City of Abbotsford and Milan and, in his retirement, he enjoyed watching the Packers & Brewers, playing cards of all types, listening to polka music, embellishing on many stories and was known by many as the “unofficial” mayor of Milan during 25 years of the Milan Softball Tournament.

Butch is survived by his wife, Bev (nee Decker); his children: Duane (Amy) Boris of Woodbury, Minn., and DeAnn (Jamey) Handschke of Athens; his daughters-in-law: Carla (Dave Kermode) Boris, Hudson and Chris Boris of Bloomington, Minn.. Butch loved his nine grandchildren: Seth (Madison), Ryan (Emily), Kasey (Zach), Zach, Riley (Katie), MacKenzie, Cole (Briana) Handschke, Carter (Grace) Meddaugh and Jenna Handschke, along with his five great-grandchildren: Zoella, Zaiden and Zekeiel Kaufman and Rhett and Ridge Handschke with another blessing on the way.

Also survived by his siblings: Bev/George Kremsreiter, Kitty Lehman, Maedelle/Rod Erickson, Pete/Marney, Raymond/Charlotte, Chuckie/Russ Janke, Linda Leitzke, Karen/Jim Sparke, Mike/Renee and Rick and his siblings-in-law: Wayne/Bonnie Decker, Russ/Jenny Decker, Randy/Sandy Decker and Mark/Deb Decker.

Butch was preceded in death by his sons: Dean and David, until they were reunited in Heaven. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Delores; his brothers: Jim and Dwight; his mother and father in-law, Fritz and Edna Decker: and his brothers-in-law: Fuzzy and Ronnie Decker.

A celebration of Butch’s life will be held on June 21 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Wishing Well at 234064 Hwy. 97 in Athens.
