MARATHON T&F MEET

There were plenty of high places to go around for the Medford Raiders and Rib Lake Redmen at Tuesday’s track and field at Marathon High School.

In the boys meet, Marathon scored 206 points, while Medford placed second with 120 points, 15 more than Columbus Catholic. Rib Lake scored 96 points to finish ahead of Abbotsford (75), Loyal (26), Prentice (22) and Greenwood (9).

Medford used the meet to get a lot of younger or less experienced athletes into competition, but many of its veterans got work in as well a week before the Great Northern Conference championships. Rib Lake got wins from Jed Henderson in the high jump and from its 3,200-meter relay team.

Henderson’s winning height was 6 feet, 2 inches, tying his season-best. Rib Lake’s Kylan Bartelt (5-2) and David Pichea (5 feet) were fifth and sixth. The Redmen’s already stellar distance group got a boost from sophomore Henry Regier’s return from injury. He joined Truman Smith, Seamus Highfill and Kaleb Scott in winning the 4x800 in 8:46.42, while Rib Lake’s Jack Regier, Connor Highfill, Dene Zuleger and Jackson Schutt were third in 9:08.39. Medford’s Ayden Tyznik, Judah Wipf, Evan Pagel and Anthony Seidel were fifth in 9:42.97.

Scott was second in the 3,200-meter run at 10:34.17, Jack Regier was third in 10:44.3 and Schutt was sixth in 11:53.38. Scott also took second in the 400-meter dash at 51.5, just ahead of Medford’s Caleb Scoles (53.27). Raiders Hayden Spangler (55.94) and Seidel (58.11) were fifth and eighth.

Scoles had a big night, adding a win in the 100-meter dash (12.03) and a secondplace time of 24.19 seconds in the 200meter dash. Raiders Levi Zuleger (25.51) and Damien Dums (25.66) were fourth and sixth in the 200. Colton Long (12.47) and Zuleger (12.53) were fifth and seventh for Medford in the 100.

Medford’s Will Daniels won the 300meter intermediate hurdles in 42.79 seconds, his teammate Luke Klapatauskas was third in 46.71 seconds and Rib Lake’s Gavin Zondlo was eighth in 51.36 seconds. In the 110-meter high hurdles, Daniels (17.52), Klapatauskas (18.78) and Zondlo (19.62) were third, fourth and sixth.

Klapatauskas won the triple jump at 379.25 and Dums was right behind him at 37-1. Rib Lake’s Riley Johnson was seventh at 31-2.5. Raider Gage Losiewicz cleared a season-best 12-6 to take third in the pole vault, Axel Brushaber set a personal-best while finishing seventh at 10-6 and Jordan Lavin was eighth at 10 feet. Medford’s Logan Langdon was sixth in the discus with a throw of 114-1, and Jonathan Bartnik was eighth in the shot put at 33-4.5, just behind Rib Lake’s Lawson Carlson (33-11), who also was ninth in the discus at an even 100 feet. Dene Zuleger was seventh for Rib Lake in the long jump at 15-11.25 and Gus Zuleger was ninth at 15-5.25.

Smith was third for Rib Lake in the 800-meter run at 2:10.56 and Seamus Highfill (2:12.76) was fourth. Earlier, Smith was fourth in the 1,600-meter run at 5:01.57, while Seamus (5:12.86) and Connor Highfill (5:16.23) were seventh and eighth.

In the 400-meter relay, Medford’s Long, Beck Mayrer, Zuleger and Spangler were second in 49.1 seconds; Rib Lake’s Rylan Schaelzka-Lenz, Henderson, Pichea and Gus Zuleger were fourth in 50.48 seconds and Medford’s Lavin, Jaden Thao, Brushaber and Alan Scheel were sixth in 51.22 seconds. Long, Mayrer, Peyton Ried and Dums were third (1:41.86) in the 800-meter while Johnson, Zondlo, Pichea and Gus Zuleger were fifth in the 800-meter relay (1:45.98). Rib Lake’s Dene Zuleger, Isaiah Hubbard, Ian Weber and Bartelt were fourth in the 1,600-meter relay at 4:18.02.

Girls results

Medford scored 72.5 points, led by a win in the 3,200meter relay, to take fourth in the girls standings, while Rib Lake was fifth with 57 points. Marathon won the meet with 166.5 points, while Loyal (108) and Abbotsford (92) were second and third.

Emma Tlusty won both hurdles races for Rib Lake and Maddie Rademacher won the high jump, accounting for 30 of Rib Lake’s points. Tlusty took the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.83 seconds and the 300-meter race in 52.62 seconds. Medford’s Cora Semrau was fifth in the highs (20.18) and sixth in the 300 (59.6). Her teammate, Adalyn Dittrich was eighth in the 300 at 1:03.08.

Rademacher’s winning height in the high jump was 410, 2 inches ahead of Loyal’s Addysen Wolf. Rib Lake’s Hadassah Nelson was third at 4-6. Rademacher added a third-place distance of 14-2 in the long jump, while Tlusty was fourth (13-10.75) and Raider Toryn Rau was eighth (13-1.5). Rademacher was eighth in the 100-meter dash as well in 14.75 seconds. Medford’s Jordyn Grant was fourth in that race at 14.18 seconds, while Semrau was seventh (14.74) and Emily Kiselicka was ninth (14.77).

Grant nearly won the triple jump, taking second at 324.25, 6.25 inches behind Loyal’s Summer Smith and she was fifth in the 200-meter dash at 29.74 seconds.

Medford’s win in the 3,200-meter relay was earned by Willow Dassow, Ella Dassow, Carly Koski and Autumn Cooley with a time of 11:29.65 that easily beat Prentice (13:45.28). Ella Dassow was fifth and Koski was sixth in the 1,600-meter run with times of 6:31.46 and 6:42.89. Cooley was third in the 400-meter dash at 1:08 and Rib Lake’s Ella Grzanna was sixth (1:13.06). Willow Dassow was fifth in the 800-meter run at 2:46.35.

Raider Rivalee Stokes threw the discus 111-4 to take second behind Abbotsford’s Margo Pogodzinski (120-5). Avery Losiewicz threw the shot put 25-5.25 to take seventh and Naomi Thomas cracked the top 10 at 24-7.75. Dittrich (7-6) and Kiselicka (6-6) were fifth and seventh in the pole vault.

Rib Lake’s Roxy Goberville-Lopez, Avelyn Schutt, Nelson and Rademacher took third in the 400-meter relay at 58.92 seconds, trailing Loyal (53.52) and Abbotsford (54.46).

Medford has one more meet Friday at Marshfield before it travels to Mosinee Tuesday for the GNC championships, which start at 4 p.m. For Rib Lake, Tuesday’s meet was the last competition before the Redmen return to Marathon Monday for the Marawood Conference championships. The meet starts at 3:30 p.m.
