Robert “Bob” Allen Meyer was called to his eternal home with his Savior on April 21, 2025, at the age of 65, at his home in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1959, in Libertyville, Ill., to Ronald and Lyla Meyer (Thorson) and became a child of God through Christian baptism on Oct. 18, 1959, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lake Zurich, Ill. In 1968, his parents purchased a dairy farm in Loyal, where he and his three brothers helped in its operation. On April 7, 1974, Bob confirmed his Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal.

Bob was Loyal High School’s 1977 salutatorian, the Greyhounds 98-pound WIAA state wrestling champion in his junior year, and a three-year state place-winner overall. He was also active in FFA, cross country, and track. Bob graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UW-Madison in 1982. He stayed in Madison, earning his master of science degree in chemical engineering in 1984. Bob was a loyal Wisconsin Badger fan and earned three varsity letters while on the Badger wrestling team from 1977-81.

Bob moved to Port Arthur, Texas, to work for Texaco from 1984-85, then to Austin, Texas, to work for Texaco Chemical Research from 1985-1990. He took a position at Ethyl Chemical in St. Louis in 1990, which would later become Afton Chemical. Bob retired from Afton Chemical in 2017. His work took him on trips to Brussels and Singapore. Belgium was his favorite to visit.

Outside of work, Bob coached high school wrestling in Texas and junior college wrestling in St. Louis. He enjoyed scuba diving in the Caribbean, skiing in the Rockies, golfing, shooting, and following the Wisconsin Badgers. He was a compassionate and beloved member of his family and a loyal friend to many.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; Lyla’s second husband, Cliff Thorson; aunts and uncles: Gerald Meyer, Anton Dutee (Frances and Bernice) Moe, and Marguerite (Louis) Heimstead; and cousins, Michael Moe and Mary Lynn Sturgill.

Survivors include his three brothers: David (Gloria) Meyer of Fond du Lac, Jon Meyer of Marshfield, and James (Linda) Meyer of Thorp; and his four nieces: Jennifer (Samuel) Brinkman, Rebekah (Joseph) Scimeca, Shana Anderson, and Jaclyn (Fred) Schuknecht, along with their children: Judah, Ezra, and Luke Brinkman; Amelia and Norman Scimeca; Havannah Gospodinoff, and Linneah Akakpo. Others include his aunt, Darlene Meyer; cousins, Tim Meyer, Tami (Paul) McCarthy, Lou Ann Ray (Art Griffith), and Kirk (Peg) Heimstead.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, May 29, from 10 a.m. until noon at Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 N. West St., Loyal. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the church at 12 noon. The burial will take place on Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy. 10, Mondovi.

Memorials may be directed in Bob’s name to a charitable organization of your choosing.
