May 12, 1900 Skerbeck’s Show To-Day.

Taylor County’s popular one ring circus, managed this year by Joseph Skerbeck, will open for the season in this city today, giving two performances-afternoon and evening. Many improvements are said to have been added over previous years and a first class entertainment will be presented. The price of admission has been placed at 15 and 25 cents.

100 Years May 7, 1925 Paving on 13 to Come a Lap Closer to Taylor County

Morris-Martin Co. of Berlin were awarded the contract last week for paving the part of State Highway 13 which is in Marathon County. This is the stretch of 13 from Wood-Marathon counties line northwest to Romeo. Highway 13 will the be paved all the way from Nekoosa through Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, and Spencer, to the Clark-Marathon counties line. The balance of the road from that point to Taylor County’s south line is on the county line between Clark and Marathon.

75 Years Ago May 11, 1950 Forced Entry Made In Medford Store

A thirteen year old Taylor county youth is being held in custody for forced entry in the Medford Co-op store early Saturday morning. An air pellet gun and B B gun are the only reported articles missing from store merchandise.

The youth forced entry by breaking the most easterly window in the building’s front, housing the feed department. The boy is in custody of Sheriff Al Zastrow pending action.

50 Years Ago May 8, 1975 Reestablish Police and Fire Commission Here

The Medford city council Tuesday night decided to reestablish a police and fire commission. The ordinance passed without a dissenting vote, the rewritten law on the books providing for the commission to name a chief of police which has been a controversial subject in the city the past month. About 25 citizens attended the meeting Tuesday night.

The commission was dissolved October 1, 1974 by the city council in a tie-breaking vote.

25 Years Ago May 11, 2000 Marathon Cheese to stay in Medford

Marathon Cheese Corporation has signed a letter of intent with the City or Medford to build a 186,000 square foot facility on 27 acres in the Industrial Park No. 2. Tentative completion date for the project is approximately July 2001.

Chief Executive Office Don Menzner said it is subject to mutual agreement of terms, which are not being released by either Marathon Cheese or the City at this time.

10 Years Ago May 7, 2015 Medford takes third at state Science Olympiad

Medford Area Senior High finished third in the state Science Olympiad at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as arch-rivals Menomonie and Madison West again proved to be the top competition in the field. Medford Place first in three events and placed in the top three in five other to help the school score 170 points. The top schools held an edge in individual wins.
