MEDFORD BOYS TENNIS - Ramblers sweep away the Raiders

MEDFORD BOYS TENNIS

The Medford Raiders knew Eau Claire Regis would be a tough opponent on the tennis courts and the Ramblers proved to be that and more in a 7-0 sweep Thursday afternoon.

Regis, whose lineup Thursday featured seven players who were WIAA Division 2 sectional qualifiers last year, won all seven matches in straight sets and won all of them fairly easily, dropping Medford to 59 in dual meets this season. Regis improved to 7-5 at the time.

At number-three singles, Medford’s Ethan Kollmansberger pushed Carter Sisko in the first set, but Sisko pulled away for a 6-3, 6-1 win. John Kohel beat Medford senior Mason Reimann 6-2, 6-0 in flight two. Eli Smith swept Parker Hill in the number-one spot 6-0, 6-0 and Jack Schroeder shut out Christian Preuss in the four-spot 6-0, 6-0.

Medford won just two games in the three doubles matches.

Cale Schulz and Blaine Searles got one of those in flight one. Tony Wesner and Andrew Berschback defeated them 6-1, 60. Trevor Kern and Ryan Majeski beat Medford’s Cash Thums and Axl Spanbauer 6-0, 6-1 in flight three. Ty Gehling and Noah Laber shut out Jaeden Brandner and Cole Zenner at number-two doubles 6-0, 6-0.

A meet at Baldwin-Woodville Saturday was canceled. Medford next travels to Black River Falls Friday for a 4 p.m. dual meet. Then it’s off to Rhinelander Tuesday at 5 p.m. where the Raiders will see how they match up with the Great Northern Conference favorite in the last league dual of the spring. Both teams should enter the meet 3-0 in GNC play. The 2-0 Hodags are at short-handed Pacelli today, Thursday.
