Jean Langfeldt

Jean Marie Langfeldt was taken from this world on her 57th birthday, Dec. 6, 2024, and left a huge void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her — and to know her was to love her.

After a courageous year-long battle with cancer, Jean died peacefully in her home with her sister, Julie, at her side.

Jean, known as “Jeano” by family and friends, was born Dec. 6, 1967, to Robert and Darlene Langfeldt in Marshfield.

The family resided in Loyal, and Jean grew up the youngest of four siblings in the home built by her father. She received her grade school education at St. Anthony’s Catholic School and graduated from Loyal High School in 1986. While in high school, Jean was on the volleyball team, played saxophone in the marching band, was a school photographer, cheerleader, and developed many lifelong friendships.

Jean earned a bachelor of business administration, comprehensive marketing major from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Between her freshman and sophomore years, she took a break from school, moved to Wilton, Conn., and worked as a nanny, caring for a 4-year-old boy whose mother had breast cancer. Jean often referred to this as a life-changing experience in which she learned to “flap her wings” and view life outside of her Midwest home. Jean shared her favorite places on the East Coast with her family during a visit, including a night view from atop the World Trade Center in New York City.

Upon graduating from UW-Eau Claire, Jean moved to the Minneapolis area and began her career. In 2000, Jean made Chanhassen, Minn., her home where she resided until her death. Always a dog lover, Jean shared her home with her beloved chocolate lab, Lambeau, from 2000 until his passing in 2014.

Jean worked as an account manager for several different companies through the years, including Target Corporation, G.W. Gronneberg and Associates, Crossmark Sales and Marketing, Signature Sales Inc., and JMC Retail Group, Pin Jang Division. From 2015 until her diagnosis, Jean was employed as a senior account manager for Bay Island. Wherever Jean was employed, she made new friends for life.

Outside of work, Jean sought to have fun in life and to bring fun and joy to others. Whenever possible, fun involved time by water. Jean’s lifetime love of lakes and boating started early and was shared by all her family. Many summer weekends were spent “Up North” on Pier Lake, at the family cottage purchased in 1965. Pier Lake held such a lifelong special place in Jean’s heart that she chose it as part of her final resting place.

In Minnesota, she spent as much time as possible on or by water. She loved summer days boating — on the St. Croix River with her brother John, with friends on Lake Minnetonka, or with Kevin on their favorite lakes.

Jean combined her love of sunshine, water, fun, family, and friendships in her many travels to warm ocean-side destinations. Through the years, Jean walked the beaches of Hawaii, Florida, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Mexico, collecting seashells and memories. She celebrated her 50th birthday with her sister in Santorini, Greece. After her diagnosis, she was able to travel with family and Kevin for one more beach vacation in the Dominican Republic.

Jean loved convertibles, sunshine, and fashion (especially shoes!). She loved Halloween and creating detailed costumes. Jean loved sparkly jewelry and sparkles on the water. Jean not only loved sunshine and sparkles; she WAS the sunshine and sparkle in so many lives.

Jean will especially be remembered for her beautiful smile, her beautiful spirit, her friendly personality, her infectious giggle, her ability to be silly and bring fun to any gathering, and her capacity to love.

Facing an advanced, aggressive cancer, Jean both actively fought for her life— enduring brain surgery, chemotherapy and radiation — and gracefully accepted the outcome of her illness writing “I didn’t ask for this to happen to me, but best just to feel blessed over everything I have been able to experience and all the people I’ve been able to love.” Jean loved her partner Kevin, his girls, her family and friends; and she had a special place in her heart for her only niece, Megan, whom she called “sweetie pie.”

A primary goal of Jean’s treatment was to be able to attend the wedding of Megan and Vince Christensen. At every doctor’s appointment, she would tell the staff, “I just want to live long enough to be at Megan’s wedding.” Thanks to Jean’s determination and immense courage together with the various treatments, she made it to this important event, Sept. 8, 2024.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Darlene Langfeldt on Dec. 5, 2014, and Dec. 25, 2014; her older sibling, Jeffery, April 2021; and sister-in-law, Laurie, February 2020.

Jean is loved, missed, and remembered by her partner of nine years, Kevin Johnson, Rosemount, Minn.; brother, John Langfeldt (Annie Cassariel), Hudson; sister, Julie Langfeldt, Oconomowoc; niece, Megan (Vince Christensen), Hudson; and nephew, Alex Langfeldt, Plymouth, Minn. She also leaves behind an uncle, aunts, including her beloved godmother, Donna Langfeldt, and cousins. Jean is also missed by Kevin’s daughters, Marissa and Kyla; along with numerous friends and coworkers.

In accordance with Jean’s wishes, no funeral will be held. A graveside service, officiated by lifelong family friend Father Tom Lindner, will take place on Friday, June 6, 2025, 11:30 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetary. Jean’s ashes will be laid to rest next to her parents’ grave. A celebration of life will take place after the service from 12:30-3 p.m. at the Loyal American Legion Hall. Jean’s life will then be celebrated at Pier Lake.

If you are able to attend June 6, please text Julie (262-567-1350) by May 22, 2025. A celebration for Jean’s friends in Chanhassen was held in April.
