NG softball team has streak of wins, losses

After a string of three losses, the Neillsville-Granton (NG) softball team rebounded with wins against Loyal-Greenwood (LG) and Owen-Withee (OW) last week.
On Monday April 21, the team traveled to Eleva-Strum and lost 3-1, their third loss in a row.
“We fought hard until the end,” wrote coach Ashley Vine in an email. “Emerson Ormond led us with two hits in four at bats. She also stole four bases. Sydney Subke and Katie Rose each had one hit. We scored in the third inning on an error.”
However, on Tuesday, April 22, NG earned a conference win against LG, 12-11.
“This was a very intense game,” wrote Vine. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Loyal, but due to the rain that morning was moved to Neillsville. NG totaled 15 hits. Keltie Schoen and Subke had three hits. Ormond had two hits. Riley Hemp, Rose, Maddie Shaw, Shylah Walk, and Marie Hagmann each had a hit. Klarissa Canfield and Ormond drove in two runs. Schoen, Subke, and Hemp each stole multiple bases. NG totaled 12 stolen bases.
NG continued their winning ways last Thursday by picking up a home win against Owen-Withee, 7-0, leaving their record at 3-6 in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference.
NG was scheduled for another conference matchup on Tuesday at home against Colby-Abby, which was also senior recognition night.
Next on the schedule is a home game versus Columbus Catholic on Thursday, followed by an away game versus Loyal-Greenwood on Friday at Loyal (note location change). Both games will be at 5 p.m.
