Early in the week the boot and shoe store of Fred Ott was purchased by Messrs. John and Oscar Nystrum; building, stock and all. The new proprietors are energetic and enterprising business men, well acquainted with the details of the business and will conduct an up-to-date establishment. Mr. Ott will retire from business, having spent a long and successful career in the boot and shoe trade, and contemplates a trip to Germany the coming summer, after which he may settle down here and spend his remaining days in ease.

100 Years Ago April 16, 1925 Home Player Baseball Probable at Medford

Home player baseball for Medford may develop for this season. They city and surrounding community has plenty of baseball talent, which if collected together could put up a good brand of baseball. A number of the players have been working out at the fair grounds, and if present plans are carried out Medford will have a team this season with the pitcher the only salaried man on the team.

April 20, 1950 Pilot Uninjured In Airplane 75 Years Ago Crash

George Obreski, Chicago, escaped injury Saturday morning when his airplane struck a highline wire and crashed in the field on his farm just west of Bellinger in the town of Taft. Damage to the plane has been estimated at $200.

According to Al. Zastrow, sheriff, who was in Bellinger shortly after the crash, Obreski purchased the farm only recently.

50 Years Ago April 17, 1975 County Board Goes Into Second Day Here

The county board of supervisors went into its second day of the spring session Wednesday morning, having held an organizational meeting Tuesday and disposing of routine business contained in eight resolutions.

Barring any resolutions which may be brought before the Wednesday session after board approval, the board anticipated finishing with the nine resolutions to be introduced the second day.

25 Years Ago April 20, 2000 Rib Lake parents want early school start

The results of a Rib Lake School District survey asking whether to start the 2000-2001 school year before or after September 1, showed most people preferred to start school early.

Out of the 50 surveys returned, 39 people said they would like school to start at the normal time, which is before September 1. Eleven people said they would like it to start after September 1.

Uncertainty in the state budget could translate to changes in the lunchroom for Medford students and staff. Facing the possibility of over $250,000 in cuts to make if the governor’s proposed education cuts are passed, members of the Medford Area School District Finance Committee are looking at places to save. On Friday, committee members voted to recommend switching food service providers. The bids for the district’s food service project show potential savings of $60,000 a year by switching from Taher Food Service to A’viands.
