It was “Maxy.” Who “Maxy” is I’ll never tell you more than that he played first base for the Hurleys, and had completely won the affections of the Medford girls. It was “Maxy” here and “Maxy” there throughout the game, and “Maxy” smiled one wee smile as he figured which one of the bevy of beauties he would swap chewing gum with that particular bright and glorious coming evening. Probably the chosen fair damsel will tell you more about “Maxy” than I can.

July 24, 1924 Fred Steinman of Greenwood Patents a Practical Cream Cooler
Fred Steinman has invented and patented a cream cooling device which promises to be a boon to diary farmers, who have long needed something practical along this line.
Mr. Steinman’s invention cools the cream as it comes from the cream separator and, according to well known farmers of his town who have tried it, it eliminated many aspects of the farmers’ difficulties and enables him to secure a better quality of cream, which means more money and a more satisfactory state of dairy conditions.

Action Taken At Quarterly Session Held Tuesday The county board of supervisors, meeting in quarterly session Tuesday, approved the resolution of the health committee providing that a second county nurse be secured, with $1500 of her salary to be paid by the city of Medford.

Medford area school district during the 1974-75 term anticipates spending $3,776,061. The budget was approved Monday at the annual meeting. Anticipated receipts figure at $2,485,581, leaving a levy of $1,290,480.

July 21, 1999 Medford Schools will test athletes for alcohol and other drug usage
Medford Area Senior High athletes will have to agree to drug testing if they want to participate in the sports program next year. The school board approved a new Athletic Drug Testing policy last Thursday with a split 5-3 vote.

How about shopping for fresh fruit slushies at an open air market in Madrid, making pizza in Pisa, visiting the Pope while passing through Rome or learning of the sacrifice in the name of freedom while visiting a cemetery for fallen soldiers from WWI and WWII?
Jessica Johnson, 14, of Medford had all of those experiences while participating in the People to People Student Ambassador program for a 19-day trip across the Mediterranean coastline of Europe.
