Rib Lake police coverage remains in limbo board takes no action
No action was taken on Rib Lake’s police situation at the July 10 Rib Lake Village Board meeting.
The former chief of police’s contract expired after June 30. Since then, Rib Lake has been without village police. The village has been covered by the sheriff’s department like any area in Taylor County.
At the board meeting, George Tesch, police committee trustee, said the police committee will be talking with either Larry Woebbeking or Corey Dassow of the sheriff’s department next week. It is not known whether this conversation will be about a new police chief, additional coverage from the county, or some other matter.
Budget
The Village has spent 70 percent of the annual budget throuxgh about 50 percent of the year. Village Board President Bill Schreiner explained that single-time expenses account for Rib Lake being ahead on spending. He anticipates the budget will catch up and pose no issues. “The budget is looking pretty darn good,” Schreiner recapped.
Other Business
The Rib Lake Ambulance garage will soon have a new fridge and stove. “This is something that we have to do. If they are going to be there for days at a time, they have to have refrigerators and stoves,” Schreiner commented. The board voted to pay $1268 for the appliances and installation. There will be an additional cost to have an electrician wire the garage.
The board voted to give the library permission to go forward with a grant that would fund the installation of StoryWalk holders with permanent wooden bases. The StoryWalk holders have been damaged and stolen around Rib Lake. “Our biggest concern is that we don’t want to interfere with any snow removal,” said board member Cliff Mann.
To recap the reports, work on North Front St. started on July 10, all of the storm sewer grates are cleaned, trees are cleaned up from the streets, fixes have been made to the senior center, and the library events have drawn good turnout.
In other news, the board voted to renew the Lake District Rehabilitation CD at the highest possible rate. The account had $21,038.91 in it at the time of the meeting. The board voted to commission Jensen Chip and Seal’s price of $10,890 to seal cracks in the road, which is the same cost as last year. The board voted to spend $3,464.61 on the garage door opener at Rib Lake Village Hall.
