This particular season of the year, with its picnics and outing parties, to say say nothing of the hot weather, makes a person think of a nice shady place where to pass a leisure hour or two. Medford, strange as it may seem, is devoid of public parks.

July 3, 1924 Co-op. Creamery Makes Largest Shipment of Butter, 37,050 Pounds

Medford Co-operative Creamery made the largest single shipment of butter in its history Saturday. It was 37,050 pounds. All of it was in pound prints. There were 741 boxes with fifty of the prints in each box.

The butter bore the “Luella” brand of the American Stores Company, and the shipment went to that firm at Philadelphia.

June 30, 1949 County Hay Crop Decreased From Last Year

The 1949 hay crop in Taylor county is 70% of normal, and 10% less than last year’s short crop, according to C.A. Zoerb, county agent, upon completing yield tests on eight demonstration farms in representative parts of the county. Only first year hay fields were included in the trial yields.

Medford’s centennial celebration got underway Wednesday night at city hall with a 100-gun salute, the city hall centennial headquarters.

25 Years Ago June 30, 1999 Taylor County sales tax starts this Thursday.

Taylor County’s 0.5 percent county sales tax goes in effect Thursday, July 1. The county is the 52nd in the state to enact a sales tax.

The tax was approved by the Taylor County Board of Supervisors last March.

The new tax is expected to generate about $800,000 a year.

The issue has been highly controversial, as many people are opposed to a new tax in general, and others fear that it will just open the door to more taxes. Others are concerned that the money collected will be squandered and not used to lower the tax levy.

As Tee Hi Golf Course in Medford reaches its 80th birthday this week, it remains a familyoriented recreational facility as junior golfers learn the game alongside older generations who learned the game in the days of wooden drivers. “It’s a family-friendly course,” said Brian Thomas, who learned the game while growing up in the neighborhood. “It doesn’t deter the average golfer.”
