In late June, the Clark County Health Department facilitated tobacco compliance checks across Clark County as part of the Wisconsin Wins program. During each compliance check, a youth (under age 18) entered a licensed retailer, and attempted to purchase a tobacco product. Employees who refused to complete the sale exhibited both job competence and regard for the law.

The program aims to educate retailers on tobacco sales laws and ensure that employees are properly checking IDs. Since the campaign’s launch in 2002, tobacco sales to youth have drastically decreased across the state and remained below the national average.
