Fire destroys town of McKinley business

A town of McKinley business was destroyed by a fire on June 5. On Wednesday, June 5, at 7:09 a.m., the Sheldon Fire Protection district was dispatched for a commercial fire at Country Cuts Meats in the town of McKinley.
The Sheldon Fire district includes the town of McKinley. According to captain Ryan Tuma of the Sheldon fire department, the fire chief initially called for assistance from Jump River Fire Department for a full response and when he arrived on the scene and found the structure was fully engulfed requested tenders from the Gilman Rural Fire Department which was later upgraded for a full response. Incident command additionally requested the Ladysmith Fire Department respond with one tender and Cornell Area Fire Department respond with one tender, one squad and manpower.
According to Tuma, due to the roof collapsing making it difficult for firefighters to fully extinguish the fire, incident command requested an excavator. At 8:31 a.m., incident command deemed the fire under control and firefighters began an extensive mop-up. All units were clear of the scene at 12:17 p.m.
“Due to the extensive amount of damage caused to the structure, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The building was deemed a total loss,” Tuma reported.
There were no injuries reported during the fire.
“The Sheldon Fire Protection District would like to thank the Jump River Fire Department, Gilman Rural Fire Department, Cornell Area Fire Department, Ladysmith Fire Department, Sheldon Ambulance and Trawicki and Son Excavating for their assistance with this incident,” Tuma stated.
