Greenwood Museum Committee discusses summer docents, End of Summer Fest plans

A meeting of the Greenwood Museum Committee was called to order by chairperson Pat Lindner on May 9 at 6:35 p.m. at the museum. Committee members present were Lindner, Steve Hemersbach, Jeff Block and Kurt Humke. Mayor Dave Hansen was also present.

The treasurer’s report was handed out for review and was accepted as printed. Hansen made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, seconded by Block. The motion carried.

Committee members went over the 2024 summer and fall openings of the museum. The following are the dates and who is in charge of opening the museum: June 1, Lindner; June 2, Hemersbach; July 6-7, Humke; Aug. 3-4, Hemersbach; Sept. 7, unknown at this time; and Oct. 5-6, Hansen. The museum will be open from noon to 3 p.m. each of those dates.

The End of Summer Fest open house will be Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Committee members discussed maybe just having wine and cheese tasting along with either an ice cream or popcorn machine from a vendor. There will be more meetings to discuss and confirm this event.

Lindner and Hansen talked about the blue bridge on County Highway G being torn down in 2025. The plan is for the museum to receive a piece of the bridge. The committee was undecided on whether they wanted the piece to go inside or outside of the museum.

Hemersbach thanked Block for designing the letterhead and stationary of the museum. He also expressed thanks to the Larry Stamp family for the donation of artifacts from Civil War campsites.

If there are any suggestions for possible new museum committee members, let Lindner or Hemersbach know.

Hansen made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Hemersbach. The motion carried. With all in agreement, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for June 13 at 6:30 p.m.
