“Life is a journey filled with experiences that shape who we are and who we become.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

During my toddler years when one of the most significant events happened, that impacted my life. During this time, I watched my mom go through an abusive marriage. This challenging and painful experience changed me for the better, teaching me invaluable lessons about resilience, inner strength, and the importance of self-love.

As a toddler witnessing my mother go through a mentally and physically abusive marriage had always been deeply distressing. It exposed me to a side of life that no child should ever have to witness. The loving home I once knew was shattered by arguments, fighting, and emotional turmoil. It was a difficult and confusing time, as I struggled to understand why someone would hurt a person they once loved.

Despite the darkness that surrounds us, my mother displayed immense courage and resilience throughout this time. She became my role model, showing me the power of determination and strength to stand up against adversity. She taught me that even in the face of immense pain, it is possible to find inner strength and keep moving forward.

Through my mother’s example, I have learned that self-love and self-respect are paramount. Witnessing her abuse made me realize the importance of setting boundaries, recognizing red flags, and valuing my own well-being. I have come to understand that I deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, and love in all my relationships. I have also come to understand how I should treat others. While it was difficult, it also taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, self-love, and the power of using one’s voice for change. This experience has also ignited a passion within me to advocate for those who have experienced similar situations. I have become more empathetic and compassionate towards others who have faced domestic abuse. I want to use my voice to raise awareness about this issue. I am hopeful that by sharing this story, I can make a positive impact on those who have suffered in silence. Now, at the age of 14, I have learned that no matter what challenges we face, we have the power to rise above them and become stronger individuals. I am committed to using my experiences to make a difference and create a better future for myself and others.
