Gilman board approves adding to road project

The village of Gilman will spend more now on a road project rather than having to come back later to do it at a higher cost in the future.

At the May 8 village board meeting, board members approved a new bid from American Asphalt to resurface 4th Street and follow along the curve as it leads to the Gilman Schools facilities.

According to village clerk Candice Grunseth, it made sense for the village to do the whole portion of the road at one time rather than doing just a portion of it. The additional work will add $32,760 to the summer road project.

In the capital projects, the village will be creating a five-year plan for sidewalk replacement to address issues around the village.

In the parks, board members approved putting a concrete pad under the bleachers when they are moved to a new location in the park. Previously the bleachers have been located between the concession building in the park and the stage. Issues have been raised noting that it blocks people at the concession stand area from being able to see the stage. Plans call for shifting the existing bleacher to open up the space more. A concrete pad under the bleachers will improve stability for them.

In other park matters board members approved purchasing and installing new sinks in the park bathrooms. Board members took no action on the potential purchase of a computer or Ipad device to run the scoreboard at the ball diamond pending a visit from the vendor about options including use of a smartphone-based app.
