Grass fires continue

The Abbotsford Fire Department was called at a few minutes after noon Saturday to the corner of the Clarence Weller place. Sparks from burning trash ignited the grass and the fire started spreading.

Frank Nikolay is candidate forstateAttorney General

Frank L. Nikolay, 31, former U.S. attorney, announced he would be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin attorney general in the September primary. Nikolay served as a federal attorney for the Wisconsin Western District from July 1952 to December 1953.

Diane Roytek guest at “kick-off”

The “Kick-Off” banquet for the 16th annual Dorchester Days was held on Saturday evening at Memorial Hall in Dorchester. The guest of honor was Miss Diane Roytek, Dorchester Centennial Queen.

Abby, Colby Representatives named

The Abbotsford and Colby High School representatives at 1974 Badger Boys State and Badger Girls State. Paul Writz, Dennis Maslanka and Jill Schilling and will represent Abbotsford at the events. Ellen Brunker, Mary Langhus, Dennis Bloom and Valgene Fischer are the Colby reps.

At the annual meeting of Clark Electric Cooperative, Miss Lynette Will was crowned Miss Clark Rural Electrification. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. RalphWill, Colby.

Colby to refinance school debts

The Colby School Board this week agreed to refinance its outstanding debt quickly rather than wait for a January 2001 deadline. The district has two debts to repay: The Colby Elementary School issue and the Colby Middle School construction and high school remodeling.

Eighty-four visitors to the Senior Health Fair held last week in the basement of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford got their eyes checked, tested grip strength, got blood work done and many other health-related services.

Hornets defeat Auburndale with Hamus on the mound

Solid pitching by Al Hamus and key hits in the game helped the Colby baseball team to a 10-3 Cloverbelt Conference victory over Auburndale April 19. Dallas Hamann, Ted Sommer and Ryan Bedroske all recorded multiple hits in the contest.
