TAYLOR COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE On March 12, at 10:30 p.m., a vehicle driven by Melvin Lorenz, 56, of Thorp, was eastbound on County Line Rd. near the intersection of 6th Ave. in the town of Roosevelt, when it went into the south ditch. The vehicle drove in the south ditch for a little bit before being steered hard left causing the vehicle to overturn on the roadway. The vehicle came to rest upside down in the north ditch facing westbound. The driver crawled out of the vehicle and left the scene. The driver called the crash in 5 days later. The driver complained of a pulled hamstring and being disoriented as a result of the crash. According to the crash report, he stated that he had one alcoholic beverage prior to driving and stated he crashed due to the rear wheel falling off. Based on the tire tracks on the scene, and how everything came to rest, the report states that the rear tire did not come off until the vehicle rolled from the overcorrection out of the south ditch. The vehicle sustained disabling damage. Lorenz received citations for operating a motor vehicle without insurance, non-registration of auto, operator failure to wear safety belt, and failure to keep vehicle under control.

R EPORTS One vehicle crashes

On March 19 At 6:44 p.m., a vehicle operated by Mathew Kostner, 17, of Medford, was traveling eastbound on W. Broadway Ave. (Hwy 64) in the city of Medford. According to the report, Kostner admitted to driving the vehicle at a higher speed than the posted speed limit allowed. Kostner turned right to continue to travel southbound on Joan St. The turn was made too wide causing the vehicle to hit the curb in the northbound land of Joan St. This caused disabling damage to the vehicle.

On March 16 at 7:45 p.m., a vehicle operated by Erick Omar Velasquez Mora, 31, of Rib Lake, was traveling southbound on Timber Dr. in the town of Rib Lake. The vehicle entered the west ditch and continued straight until correction back onto the roadway. The driver overcorrected and entered the east ditch before stopping. Minor damage was reported. The driver received citations for operating while under the influence, operate without a valid license (1st) and failure to keep vehicle under control.

Two vehicle crash

On March 10 at 4:26 p.m., a vehicle operated by Ethan Bolz, 18, of Withee, was southbound on Apple Ave. in the town of Little Black and slowed or stopped. A vehicle operated by Dalton Waide, 18, of Stetsonville, struck the Bolz vehicle front to rear. There were three passengers in the Waide vehicle and one passenger in the Bolz vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Hit and run

On March 18 a vehicle operated by Rebecca Steiner, 50, of Withee, was legally parked in the parking lot at Medford Area Senior High School. An unknown vehicle struck the back of the vehicle at some point causing damage to the rear driver’s side.

At 10:28 a.m. on March 24, a vehicle owned by Lanah Brahmer, 72, of Medford, was legally parked and unoccupied on the 200 Block of S. Washington Ave. about 100 feet from stop sign at the intersection with Cedar St. The vehicle was struck by an unknown second vehicle. The driver’s door mirror was damaged.

On March 17 at 7:35 p.m., a vehicle operated by Susan Purkapile, 71, of Gilman struck a deer at the intersection of Hwy 64 and Town Line Rd., in the town of Ford.

On March 15, at 7:09 a.m., a vehicle operated by Glenn Jorgensen, 48, of Glidden, struck a deer while southbound on Hwy 13 in the town of Westboro.

Car vs. Deer

On March 21, at 6:41 a.m., vehicle operated by Michael Herschell, 32, of Stetsonville, struck a deer while on Robin Dr. in the town of Deer Creek.

On March 20, at 6:59 a.m., a vehicle operated by Andrew Kaiser, 30, of Stetsonville, struck a deer while on Elm Ave. in the town of Little Black.
