Lundy named new Medford school chief

Selection committee made their choice, board will confirm on Monday

Laura Lundy will be the next district administrator for Medford Area Public Schools.

Lundy is a Medford native and currently works as the district’s curriculum coordinator. On Wednesday morning, district administrator Pat Sullivan announced the interview committee had selected her at their meeting on Tuesday night and she

had verbally accepted the offer.

She will be formally confirmed in the position at Monday’s school board meeting. Medford had initially received four applicants for the position. The field was narrowed to three when one of the applicants received a position in another district.

Sullivan noted that while there were just three candidates all of them were high quality candidates.

On Tuesday night, a 20-person selection committee made up of eight board members and 12 district employees interviewed the candidates. The original plan had been to narrow the candidates

to finalists and hold a community forum, however with a small pool and such a strong candidate in Lundy, the decision was made to do it all in one night.

Following the interviews with the full committee, the staff members were dismissed and the board met and decided to make the verbal offer to Lundy.

“They were very comfortable with being done and selecting Laura,” Sullivan said.

He said they plan to have a community session in the future to give community members an opportunity to meet and greet Lundy before she takes over the position on July 1.
