Annual Taylor County Moving For a Cure fundraiser set for May 17

The 9th annual Taylor County Moving for a Cure cancer fundraiser is set for Friday evening, May 17, at the Medford City Park. The event will offer a 50/50 raffle, gift card board, and raffle tickets for attendees to purchase tickets for chances to win prizes. Top prizes this year include a pair of kayaks donated by Prevail Bank, a Solo Stone Pi pizza oven donated by Edward Jones – Russ Jablonsky, a pair of bikes donated by Stronger Version Fitness, and two $500 cash prizes donated by Abbyland Foods. Tickets are available to purchase at Cindy’s Bar and Grill, Quality Care Chiropractic and Wellness, K99 Radio, and will also be available at their booth this weekend at the Medford Chamber Home Show at the Simek Center. Drawings will be at 8 p.m. the evening of the event (need not be present to win). The Kiwanis will once again be offering food and beverages from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for all to enjoy.

The Committee, made up of Carmen Thiede, Tammy Fieselman, Patty Krug, Sherry Meyer, Karen Dahlvig, Kori Miller, Cassi Zondlo, Jennifer Sobotta and Karen Kropp-Mueller, is organizing the fundraiser. The 5k Walk registration will start at 5:30 p.m. The opening ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. with the guest speaker sharing their personal heart-felt journey with cancer. The walk will begin at approximately 7 p.m. Dove balloons will be available for purchase and released during the event in memory or in honor of loved ones affected by cancer.

The Committee encourages individuals, teams, and businesses to take part in the event and support local cancer patients. Team registration folders and individual fundraising flyers are available for pick up at K99 Radio or the Medford Chamber office. Ask family and friends to join in your fundraising efforts.

Last year the event provided 43 individuals or families living in Taylor County experiencing cancer treatments with $1,000 stipends. In 2024, the Committee, along with our major sponsors, decided to allocate 10% of monies raised to individuals working at a business located within Taylor County. All money raised will be disbursed locally to Taylor County residents or individuals working within Taylor County who are undergoing cancer treatments regardless of income, insurance coverage, or where the treatment is received. The fund allocation will be based on the total amount raised on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Thiede said the Committee will once again work with the Taylor County Health Department to disburse money raised. Those seeking assistance must complete a simple grant application with the necessary requirements found within the application. Applications will be available beginning June 1 on our website (TCMoving4Cure.com) or from the Taylor County Health Department. We look forward to seeing you on May 17!
