NASP ARCHERY - Medford to host annual archery shoot; high scores posted at Augusta, Owen-Withee

The busy season of competition for local youth archers makes its annual stop at Medford Area Middle School this weekend for the 11th annual Medford Archery Club bullseye and fifth annual 3-D tournaments.
Last year’s events drew 455 competitors to the bullseye shoot and another 225 shot in the 3-D competition. As of early this week, almost 800 total entries had been received for the two shoots.
The event starts with four bullseye flights at 5, 6, 7 and 8 p.m. and four 3-D flights at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. on Friday. A full day of competition on Saturday includes 10 bullseye flights that start at the top of each hour from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 10 3-D flights that start at 8:15 a.m. with the last one starting at 5:30 p.m.
Concessions, raffles and door prizes will be available.
In recent weeks, archers from both Taylor County programs have been busy.
At Augusta
The biggest area tournament last weekend was in Augusta, where bullseye and 3-D shoots were held. The bullseye shoot included 235 boys and 212 girls.
Medford’s Dylan Emmerich won the middle school boys individual championship with a score of 282 out of a possible 300, while Gilman’s Colton Lang was seventh out of 112 archers in the division at 277.
Gilman’s Shyan Pentimone was fourth out of 89 middle school girls with her score of 278 and Jazmyn Robinson was ninth at 270.
Medford’s Mattie Gebert placed fourth out of 91 archers in the girls high school competition. She shot a 283. Raider Matthew Brunner was 11th among 91 high school boys with his score of 282 and Medford’s Ezra Hillebrand was 14th at 277.
Gilman was third in the high school team standings with 3,206 points, trailing Cadott (3,343) and Augusta (3,231). The Pirates beat Sparta by three points. Medford was sixth with 3,135 points.
Gilman had a strong middle school showing in the 3-D shoot, which drew 103 boys and 92 girls. The Pirates placed second in the team standings behind St. Patrick’s Catholic School of Sparta (1,621) with 1,576 points. Thorp was 10 points behind.
Reece Weir was third for the Pirates in the middle school girls standings with a score of 278, while Robinson was sixth at 266, Pentimone was eighth at 264 and Rayanna Romig was 10th at 262. Makii Austin Mallo was fifth in the boys shoot with his score of 270.
Emmerich was third for Medford on the boys side with his 276, while Lang was ninth for Gilman at 265. Hillebrand was third out of 26 high school boys at 285, while Gebert was ninth out of 37 high school girls at 272.
Gilman was fourth in the high school team standings.
Also over the weekend, Emmerich won the middle school boys division in the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association Bullseye Shootout in Stevens Point. He shot a 293 there. Hillebrand was sixth in the high school boys division at 277 and Hudson Ness was seventh in the elementary boys division at 248.
At the seventh annual Duel in the Dells shoot, Hillebrand was ninth in the high school boys division with his score of 280 and Medford’s Kaedence Ecklund was ninth among high school girls at 269.
Owen-Withee
At the Feb. 24 Owen-Withee Blackhawk tournament, Gebert and Jenna Wickersheim were first and second for Medford in the high school girls 3-D division with scores of 283 and 281. Gilman’s Mylie Stephens was ninth at 267. Hillebrand was fifth among high school boys at 285 and Gilman’s Dalton Wisocky was 11th at 266.
Emmerich won the middle school boys 3-D championship with his score of 282. Raiders Brock Anderson and Eric Paul were sixth and 10th at 270 and 265. Lang was third for Gilman with his 276 and Wyatt Stephens was ninth at 266.
Weir ranked second among middle school girls at 276, while Pentimone was fifth at 266. Gilman’s Addison Lang was seventh in the elementary girls division with her score of 209, while Emma Partridge was 10th at 192 and Medford’s Chloe Krueger was ninth at 193.
Medford was third in the high school team standings at 1,637, just behind Marshfield (1,671) and Stratford (1,638). Gilman ranked fifth at 1,548. The Pirates were third in the middle school rankings with a score of 1,520, trailing Stratford (1,549) and Auburndale (1,530).
In the bullseye shoot, Emmerich was the highest local finisher, taking second in the middle school boys division at 285, one spot and two points ahead of Colton Lang. Wyatt Stephens was ninth at 274. Weir led local girls by taking fourth with her 279 and Pentimone was ninth at 270.
Wickersheim took third among high school girls at 282, just ahead of Gebert’s 280. Wisocky led local boys by taking third at 285, Hillebrand was fifth with a 284 and Gilman’s Tyrel Mravik was ninth at 277.
Partridge was sixth in the elementary girls division at 237, while Addison Lang was 10th at 229.
Medford was second in the high school team standings with 3,239 points, 18 behind Stratford. Gilman was fourth in the middle school division with 2,917 points.
A few archers competed at Flambeau that day. Brunner was seventh among high school boys at 275 and Romig was seventh among middle school girls at 261.
