We sure have been experiencing an odd winter. We may not have had the traditional white Christmas, but that doesn’t stop us from celebrating and decorating. The Abbotsford Introduction to Horticulture and middle school classes spent a lot of time in the greenhouse preparing for our poinsettia sale.

Students started the poinsettias from small plugs and worked throughout the fall semester to have them ready for the holidays. A variety of poinsettias were grown, as students offered red, pink and white poinsettias to the community. The Abbotsford greenhouse successfully sold over 300 poinsettias to local churches, businesses and community members. We would like to thank all that supported our sale.

The students that grew these plants were able to learn about plant life cycles and how to market them through our sale. Earnings from the sale will help support installation of new systems and technologies to update the greenhouse. Other maintenance projects to the greenhouse are being looked at to continue to provide the most beautiful plants we can offer.

The Abbotsford Introduction to Horticulture and middle school classes plan to have a spring plant sale where they will offer a variety of hanging baskets, annual bedding plants and vegetable plants. Be sure to watch Abbotsford FFA on Facebook for updates regarding the sale.

NOT JUST FOR PROFIT - On top of earning money by growing poinsettias, students from Abby High School earned valuable lessons on plant cycles and growing plants in a greenhouse.

A SEA OF RED AND GREEN - Over 300 poinsettias were grown in the Abbotsford greenhouse and were then sold to churches, businesses and community members.
