February 13, 2014 Mayor: Keep faucet running

The city of Medford is joining Rib Lake and other area communities in calling for water customers to keep a faucet running to prevent lines from freezing.

Residents are advised to keep a pencil-sized stream of water flowing from a faucet in the main level of their home or business—including churches and schools—beginning at noon on Friday. Only one running faucet is needed per structure, so landlords are asked to coordinate with renters about where a faucet will run.

They went to the Lester Schwarz residence nearby to telephone the Medford rural fire department.

February 14, 1924 Fowler Suffers Painful Hurt in Planer Cogs

August Fowler suffered a terribly painful accident Tuesday, when his arm was chewed in the cogs at the delivery end of the matcher at the Medford Lumber Company’s planning mill.

Fowler’s coat sleeve caught in the cogs when he reached close to the delivering rollers to pull away a board which had been delivered from the matcher. The coat sleeve fed his arm into the cog teeth and pulled it down against the cross shaft, which operates in a contrary way to the delivery rollers.
