CCL plans February events
The Colby Community Library will be packing plenty of activities into February. Check out the following events:
Movie Mania
Check out movies at the Colby Community Library (CCL) between February 1-29. Receive a drawing slip for each movie checked out during the month. On Leap Day, February 29 at 7 p.m., winners will be drawn for moviethemed prizes including movie passes to Broadway The- ater in Medford, Rogers Cinema in Marshfield, and Cedar Creek Cinema in Rothschild. This program is for all ages.
Win Tickets
The ShowCase Players are offering two pairs of tickets to the March performance of Love or Best Offer.â When visiting the CCL, register to win tickets to your choice of showstobeheldMarch8-10andMarch15-17. Bysupporting and attending local community theater shows, you help keep this local tradition alive.
Knitting 101
Take a leap and learn a new skill. Beginning knitting classes will be taught on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Glory Maxam will instruct, with assistance from CCL staff. There is a charge for the class and supplies. The beginning project will be a dish cloth. Register between February 1 through February 17. This class is for ages 15 through adult.
Craft and Hobby
Beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 16, Craft and Hobby doors will open in the CCL Community Room. Bring individual crafts and snacks/beverages.
Book Clubs
The afternoon book club will meet on Tuesday, February 20 to discuss âThe Exilesâ by Jane Harper. The evening book club will meet on Tuesday, February 20 at 6 p.m. Vicky Calmes will be the leader for the discussion of âListen to Meâ by Tess Gerritson.
Story Time
Story Times at the CCL are Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Preschool children with an adult are invited to an hour of stories, poems, songs, and simple crafts.
Adventure Bingo Challenge
Jump in and join theAdventure Bingo fun. The CCL is offering year-long book and movie challenges for adults and teens. Check out books or movies at the CCL to be eligible for Abby/Colby Chamber certificates in the year- end drawing. The more folders completed throughout the year, the more chances of winning. The drawing will be December 27, 2024.
Take and Makes
There are a variety of free take and make Valentine crafts ready for youth and their families to enjoy. For adults, there are take-home activities to help you âExercise Your Mind.â
Book Sale Donations
Hop on over to Forward Bank, Colby location, to donate books, movies, and puzzles. They will be collecting items for the Friends of the Colby Community Library annual Colby Cheese Days Book and Movie Sale. From January 1 through July 1, books and movies in good condition may be dropped off at Forward Bank during regular business hours. Please do not bring the materials to the CCL, as all sorting will be done at Forward Bank. The sale, sponsored by the Friends of the CCL, will be held on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19 at the Colby Lions Shelter.
Taxes
Paper copies of the basic 2023 Federal and State tax forms and instructions are in the library vestibule. Please note that computers are available to download other tax forms. There is a charge for printing them.
Michael Perry
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 6. Michael Perry, Wisconsin author, will be at the Colby High School Theater for a 2 p.m. presentation. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Colby Library. Tickets will be available at the door.
Service Projects
The Maddie Thums Memorial Sew-a-thon and Make-A-Difference Day (MADD) projects, usually held in March, have been moved to October 2024.
Winter Hours
The Colby Community Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from noon until 7 p.m. The library is closed on weekends. Curbside pickup is available during all open hours. Call the library at 715-223-2000 for assistance.
