There are 80 players in the University band which will appear in concert here Thursday, Feb. 4. The people of this community will again have the pleasure of having these college musicians as overnight guests and for breakfast.

VFW 7th district mid-winter meet held at Colby Sunday
The Colby VFW Post 2227 and its auxiliary hosted the 7th district VFW post and auxiliary midwinter conference Sunday at Hotel Colby with 115 served for the 12:30 luncheon. Members came from all over the state to attend.
Colby scouts plan March paper drive
Colby Boy Scout 683 announced plans to launch a campaign to collect old newspapers from residents in Colby and the surrounding area. Old papers will be collected at regular intervals throughout the year, tentative dates set for March and September.
Fleischauer honored for 50 years of service
Emil A. Fleischauer, Colby, was honored by stockholders and directors of Security State Bank at Colby for 50 years of service. He was presented with a plaque and a fishing rod at the annual meeting held January 15.

Abbotsford officials last week got an update on consultants’ efforts to provide space options for municipal needs, and will schedule a meeting soon with Colby officials to discuss police department possibilities.

Rep. Dave Obey would like to see the $200 million transitional payment for the nation’s dairy farmers he was able to insert in last year’s federal budget would be targeted to producers with herds of 100 cows or less.
Abby-Colby wrestlers nip Edgar in final bout before conference
Recording wins on the mat were Travis Weiler, Mike Seefeld, Nick Halopka, Jon Sundermeyer, Ryan Stuttgen and Robbie Smazal. Coach Eric Elmhorst said the wrestlers did well to compete as a team.
