Taylor County gets recognized as a StormReady Community by the National Weather Service

Taylor County was officially recognized as a StormReady Community by the National Weather Service (NWS) on January 16 during the full county board meeting.

This significant accomplishment underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents in the face of severe weather events. The Storm Ready program, administered by the National Weather Service, acknowledges communities that have taken proactive measures to enhance their resilience and preparedness for hazardous weather conditions. Taylor County has met stringent criteria set forth by the NWS, demonstrating its dedication to safeguarding lives and property during storms, develop plans for handling all types of extreme weather, from severe thunderstorms to winter storms.

Key components of the Storm Ready designation include establishing effective communication systems, developing comprehensive emergency plans, providing advanced weather monitoring capabilities, and conducting community outreach and education initiatives.
