Purple Ribbon Classic announces Dennis Bangart Memorial Calf Grant

A longtime Loyal resident is being memorialized through a grant bearing his name.
One young person has the opportunity to receive a $1,000 Dennis Bangart Memorial Calf Grant to help purchase a heifer at the 2024 Purple Ribbon Classic sale on March 2 at the Marshfield fairgrounds.
Bangart, 41, of Loyal, passed away last November as a result of complications related to his leukemia diagnosis.
“Bangart had a pure passion for agriculture and poured his heart into volunteering to observe the next generation. He spent several years as chairman of the Purple Ribbon Classic Heifer Sale, and helped breathe life into the sale that then evolved into one of the premier show calf sales in the country today. His commitment to agriculture, his community and youth will be cherished for years to come,” the grant description states.
The grant will be awarded to a youth that lives in the state of Wisconsin, and will be used to purchase a registered Holstein heifer by a 4-H, FFA or Junior Holstein Association member. The winner will be notified before the date of the 2024 Purple Ribbon Classic Sale. The calf grant is available for use at the 2024 Purple Ribbon Classic Sale. The intentions of the grant are to help an individual purchase a calf to be shown at the district show, county fairs and to expand the individual’s registered Holstein herd.
This award application will be judged on the applicant’s need for help getting started with registered Holsteins, neatness and completeness of the application, ability to provide a good home for a calf, and the applicant’s desire as expressed in the application.
Here are the conditions: 1. Grant must be used to purchase a heifer available at the 2024 Purple Ribbon Classic sale.
2. Applicant must be between the ages of 9-20 as of Jan. 1, 2024.
3. Project calf must be registered in the winner’s name only.
4. Heifer must be shown at the winner’s county fair and district show.
5. Youth must be from Wisconsin. 6. Applications for the grant are due Feb. 1.
The grant application can be found on the “Purple Ribbon Classic” Facebook page.
