Jumping into 2024

Being that it’s my first column of 2024, I thought I’d clue readers in on the beginning of my year so far. It kicked off with a bang as we hosted a New Year’s Eve party at our house.
What started as a small gathering of eight people quickly grew into a group of 21 folks who packed into our 1,700 square foot home. The night was a success as we had plenty of snacks and games for people to entertain themselves with.
Next, Nathaniel, Sami and the rest of the Tribune-Phonograph crew focused on a “new year, new you” type of approach to our newspaper. You might have noticed the change in the header on the front page combined with the change in fonts we instituted about four months ago now.
The update was much needed and we feel like it gives us a sleeker, more modern feel. I’d love to hear what you think, good or bad, about the new front page look.
And finally, this last weekend, I enjoyed the huge Packer win at a friend’s house in Marshfield. I went to the friend’s house along with a couple of my other friends initially because he had a pond. Why might I need a pond in the middle of winter, you might ask?
I needed the pond in order to do a polar plunge because I took last place in a fantasy football league this year.
News flash: the pond was cold. I wouldn’t say I was surprised by how cold it was but having never done a polar plunge before, ice bucket challenge or even just an ice bath, I didn’t know how my body would react. A quick dip in the pond was followed by a trip to the hot tub to warm up. Maybe not the smartest tactic but I’m writing this so the stupidity of my weekend didn’t result in my demise this time.
We watched the Packer whoop up on the Bears (again) and secure a playoff spot. Now, it’s time for a trip down to Dallas and a date with old coach Mike McCarthy. It’ll be a fun game to watch as the Packers really have already exceeded the season’s expectations. A win this weekend would just be icing on the cake. Outside of the Packers, there is much to look forward to this year. We have a family cruise planned in the end of March where we will depart from New Orleans and arrive in Cozumel, Mexico. Kaitlyn and I haven’t been on a cruise before so hopefully it’s a blast. We will be heading to the Upper Peninsula later in January for a ski trip. The theme here is a year of firsts as we have never been skiing before. I have been snowboarding however, I think I did better going down the hill on my tuchus instead of upright. Needless to say, expectations for the ski trip are low.
I hope everyone who wishes to and is able to, plans a year of firsts in 2024 as well.
