Races ahead for county board, school board seats

There will be contested races in six of the 17 county board seats this spring with primaries in two of those races.

The entire county board is up for election every two years on even years.

The following is a rundown of the people seeking county board seats: In District 1 which includes Wards 1 and 2 of the city of Medford, incumbent Lisa M. Carbaugh is unopposed for reelection.

In District 2 which includes Wards 3 and 4 of the city of Medford incumbent Tim Hansen faces challenges from Jeffrey R. Lange and Ryan Hillebrand. This will require a primary to be held in February. Hansen, who previously represented the seat, had been appointed to the current position following the resignation of Greg Knight who moved out of the area.

In District 3, which includes Wards 5 and 6 in the city of Medford incumbent Sue Swiantek is unopposed for reelection.

In District 4, which includes Wards 7 and 8 in the city of Medford, incumbent Mike Bub is unopposed for reelection.

In District 5, which includes Ward 1 of the town of Medford incumbent Jim Metz is running unopposed. Metz is the current county board chairman, a position that is voted on at the reorganization meeting following the spring election.

In District 6, which includes Ward 2 of the town of Medford and the town of Chelsea, incumbent Scott Mildbrand faces a challenge from Nathaniel Rinehart for the seat.

In District 7, which includes Ward 3 of the town of Medford and Ward 1 of the town of Hammel Lorie Floyd is unopposed for reelection.

In District 8, which includes the Town of Little Black, incumbent Chuck Zenner is unopposed for reelection.

In District 9, which includes the town of Deer Creek and the village of Stetsonville, Diane J. Albrecht is unopposed for reelection.

In District 10, which includes the town of Browning and the town of Goodrich, incumbent Catherine Lemke will face a challenge from Adam Keeling. Last summer Keeling led a recall attempt to oust Lemke from her position.

In District 11, which includes the town of Greenwood and Ward 2 of the town of Rib Lake, incumbent James Gebauer faces multiple challengers. Jessica Mudgett, John Hansen and Angelisa Olson have all filed to run for the seat. A primary will be held in February.

In District 12, which includes Ward 1 of the town of Rib Lake and the village of Rib Lake, incumbent Rollie Thums will face a challenge from Billy J. Leggett, Jr.

In District 13, which includes the towns of Grover, Westboro and Molitor, incumbent Harvey ‘Bud’ Suckow, is unopposed for reelection. Suckow gained his seat last summer during a recall election against former longtime board member Lester Lewis.

In District 14, which includes the towns of Cleveland, Jump River, McKinley and Pershing, incumbent Myron Brooks faces a challenge from Karen Cummings.

In District 15, which includes the towns of Aurora, Ford and the village of Gilman, incumbent Lynn Rosemeyer is unopposed.

In District 16, which includes the towns of Maplehurst, Roosevelt, Taft and the village of Lublin, Darrell J. Thompson is unopposed to fill the spot of Ray Soper. Soper had previously announced he would not be seeking another term.

In District 17, which includes Ward 2 of the town of Hammel and the town of Holway, incumbent Rod Adams faces a challenge from Joseph Kohn.

The county board is just one of the races for the spring election ballot.

In the Rib Lake school district incumbent Stacy Tlusty is unopposed running for reelection for the town of Westboro seat. Incumbent Nicole Glenzer is unopposed for reelection for the town of Rib Lake seat. Incumbent Jackie Mohr will face challenger Peter Meyer for the at large seat.

In the Medford school district incumbents Dave Fleegel, Donald Everhard and Jodi Nuernberger face challenger Dennis Becker in the April election.

In the village of Rib Lake incumbents Cliff Mann, Jack Buksa and Megan Beckstrand will face challengers Bryan Marschke and Dave Glenzer.

In the city of Medford all incumbents are running unopposed for reelection. They are first district (Wards 1 and 2) Dave J. Brandner, second district (Wards 3 and 4) Ken Coyer, third district (Wards 5 and 6) Christine Weix, fourth district (Wards 7 and 8) Clem Johnson and mayor Michael Wellner.

In the Gilman school district, incumbent Darrell Thompson and Philip “Butch” Grunseth are running for election.
