MEDFORD CURLING

The Medford boys and girls curling teams took losses at home on Tuesday to Wausau West.

Wausau West returns their entire varsity teams from a year ago and was able to capitalize on that experience against the still developing Medford teams.

On the girls side, Medford had a strong draw game going with lots of rocks in play and in the house for either team resulting in low scores in each end through most of the game.

The teams traded points along with the hammer rock as Medford scored one point each in the first, third and fifth ends. In the fifth, Medford skip Caidyn Zenner had a near-perfect draw to the button in between three surrounding Wausau West rocks to get the point.

Wausau West scored one each in the second and fourth end. The game changer occurred in the sixth end when the Warriors scored four points and took a 6-3 lead. Wausau West had several guards up front in that end making it hard for the Medford girls to make their shots.

The Raiders rallied and attempted to come back, getting one point each in the seventh and eighth ends, but that was not enough in the 6-5 loss.

The boys game was more lopsided as Medford conceded after six ends with the score at 9-3.

The Medford boys had some solid shots, but left opportunities for the Wausau West team to pick off rocks on the house and put up guards.

The game started on the wrong foot for Medford with Wausau West scoring four in the first end.

Medford boys got one rock in the second end, but that was answered by West getting three in the third end. Medford again scored one in the fourth end to be answered in the fifth end with Wausau West bringing their score to 9-2. Medford boys were able to score again in the sixth end to make the final score 9-3.

The boys had come off a win at Wausau East Friday. In that game, the boys rallied from behind, scoriung three in the seventh end to brining the score to 6-5. Medford scored two more in the eighth end to win 8-5.

The girls team lost their match to East on Friday 10-1.

Medford’s team conclude the preholiday portion of their schedule today, Thursday, at Stevens Point.
