Homicide charges have been filed against a Sheldon man who told law enforcement he had been drinking prior to hitting two hunters who had been standing in the roadway in the Town of Pershing on the evening of Nov. 29.

James L. Winchel, 42 faces up to 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines for a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and up to six years prison and $10,000 fines for a charge of causing injuries by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

December 6, 1973 County to Transfer Ambulance Service to Hospital Here

Following a meeting with personnel of Memorial Hospital of Taylor County, Inc., two county committees have requested district attorney Robert Rusch to draft a contract with the hospital for the operation of the county ambulance.

The health and law enforcement committees were given authority by the county board during its November session to meet with hospital personnel following an offer by the hospital.

Tuesday evening to organize a Taylor County Guernsey Breeders association, electing Ted Schwoch of the town of Greenwood as the first president.

Earl Hartwig, Medford, was elected as vice president, and Kenneth Hein of Rib Lake was named secretarytreasurer. In addition to the officers elected to the board the other directors are Mike Tkachuk, Lublin; Walter Brooks, Gilman.

Ralph Ord of Madison, deputy on fire prevention for the Industrial Commission of Wisconsin, made Medford an official visit on Tuesday.

In general Mr. Ord was well pleased with the efforts toward fire prevention being made in Medford, and he spoke well of the fire inspection work which Fred Davis is doing in cooperation with Fire Chief Glen Austin and the city council.
