Stratford Journal 50 years ago... thursday, november 29, 1973 Debbie Koenig receives DAR Award The senior class of Marathon High School nominated three senior girls as possible D.A.R. Good Citizens at Marathon High School. To be a Good Citizens nominee, the girls selected must have the following qualifications: leadership, dependability, service and patriotism.
The senior class nominated the following girls: Connie Boehm, Debbie Koenig and Marie Krautkramer. The faculty made the final selection and the girl to represent Marathon High School as a good citizen will be Debbie Koenig. 25 years ago... wednesday, December 2, 1998 Nominations sought for ‘Stratford’s Finest’ award The Stratford Area Chamber of Commerce invites community members to nominate a person, couple, business or organization from the Stratford area who deserve to be the 1998 recipient of the “Stratford’s Finest” award.
The nominees should have displayed service to the community, enhance the community image or community life. The 1997 recipient, posthumously, was Paul Hale. Other past recipients include Allie Knoll, Melvin Guenther, Dean Wieland, Elmer Hayes, Robert and Donetta Ulrich, Stratford Area Fire and Ambulance, Jerome Sauter, Stratford Clinic, STAR Club, and Central Wisconsin Co-operative.
Record Review 50 years ago... thursday, November 29, 1973 Obey announces recreation grant Congressman Dave Obey announced a grant of $25,250 from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation to enable the Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Parks and Recreation, to acquire 48 acres of land in Rib Mountain State Park for public outdoor recreation.
The land will be used for preservation of open space. Matching funds of $25,250 will be available from the state. 25 years ago... wednesday, December 2, 1998 Marathon National Honor Society Marathon High School inducted 12 new members into the National Honor Society in November. The seniors included Maria Blume, Katie Bohr, Andrea Drewek, Angela Heise, Jenny Koppa, Nick Mittenzwei, Erin Pease and Alane Petrowski. Juniors were Sarah Krautkramer and Lynsey Parlier. Sophomores were Sarah Ceranski and Liz Wilichowski.
President Jason Jansen gave the welcome; vice-president Josh Barnet introduced the members; secretary Kristin Raether introduced the new members. Members Eden Olson, Tim Szitta, Jamie Bauman and Brian Yulga spoke on scholarship, service, leadership and character.
