C ounty Holidays at the Houses

The Marathon County Historical Society will present its annual Holidays at the Houses on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Woodson History Center and Yawkey House Museum will be decorated for the holidays, and visitors will experience the season with live entertainment, children’s activities, and the always popular Friends of Wausau Historic Landmarks’ Sweet Landmarks Gingerbread Contest.

This year’s theme will be “Making Christmas Memories.” What are the things you look forward to doing every year during the holiday season? What reminds you of home? Decorating cookies, caroling, holiday storytime, vintage toy and Barbie displays, decorating a tree, photo fun, coloring contest and, of course, Santa will keep everyone having a festive time while making new memories.

Deer dumpster

The Central Wisconsin Conservation Club Inc, in conjunction with Marathon County Waste Management, is sponsoring a dumpster for the disposal of deer carcass waste (rib cages, heads, legs and fat scrap) during the deer firearms season. The dumpster will be placed in the Edgar Waste Disposal site, located off of East Limits Road. There will also be a separate container placed there for unwanted deer hides, which will be donated to the Lions Camp for the Blind. The dumpster will be there through Dec. 10.

This program is being done as a service to the surrounding communities to help keep the environment cleaner from improperly disposed of in rural ditches. People are asked to only use the dumpster for the waste it is intended for so that the project can continue to grow in the future.
