The Stratford Journal 50 years ago... thursday, november 15, 1973 Tiger Basketball Opens vs. Rockets The Stratford Tigers open their 197374 basketball season Thursday night at home. The Tigers, coached by Don Clement, will face the Spencer Rockets, who are led by a new coach this year, Bruce Stuart.
Four returning lettermen: Seniors Dick Chrouser, Mark Kaiser and Bob Zoellner, and Junior Bob Young highlight the Tiger varsity. Filling out the varisty with strength and depth are Senior Wayne Landwehr, Juniors Greg Leick, Jim Winistorfer and Mark Kroening; Sophomores Kevin Leick, Chuck Chrouser and Larry Adams, and Freshman Paul Beining. 25 years ago... wednesday, November 18, 1998 Village Eliminates Parking on STH 97 The Stratford Board of Trustees approved a no parking zone on STH 97 during last Tuessday night’s meeting.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will pay to repair a driving lane, but not a parking lane. In the interest of safety and economy, village tustees agreed to eliminate parking on the highway.
The village accepted a donation of playground equipment from Stella Knoll’s grandchildren. The “totter” will be installed in spring.
Record Review 50 years ago... thursday, November 15, 1973 Fromm Fur Farm visited by class The advanced biology class of Edgar High School recently toured the Fromm Fur Farm. The tour began in the admin-istrative recreation building in which antiques and assorted animal skins and heads were displayed.
Rooms in which fox food is made and fur auctions are held were visited before examining the fox pens and learning about types of foxes and their habits. Approximately 5,300 fox are owned by the Fromms.
In addition, ginseng drying rooms were viewed and ginseng farming discussed.
25 years ago... wednesday, November 18, 1998 NCSF Dinner The National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 850 of Marathon recetly held a dinner at the Blue Jean Supper Club for members and their guests. Honored guests were Father Joe Diermeier and Brother Robert Thorn. Elaine Peterson and Judy Baeseman received 50 year pins. Marian Krautkramer was awarded a pin for Fraternalist of the Year. Jenna Zelenka and Brittany Zelenka were recipients of a trophy for bowling given by the Junior Court and a scholarship grant went to Hans Martin, also from High Court. There were 45 members and guests present for the dinner. Door prizes were given to ten guests.
