Miller’s Bakery moves to new building
The new location for the business will be in a new building located south of the Security State Bank building. The proprietors, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Miller, will have a grand opening on Nov. 16 and 17.
Scout pancake supper is successful event
The Boy Scout pancake supper, held on Wednesday evening at the school gymnasium, was attended by about 200 people. The troop made about $125.00 from the event, which will be used for their building fund.
New equipment installed at Colby theatre
The Colby theatre installed new lamps in the projector booth, giving 100 percent brighter pictures. They are also planning on adding a wide screen to complement the update.

$189,945 budget approved at Colby
The Colby city council approved the city budget, though the police department budget was not approved yet. Final figures of the total population of the city for tax purposes showed a total population of 1,198.
Mrs. Henry Gumz honored by 4-H club
Mrs. Gumz, who was the leader of the Holton 4-H club for the past 33 years, received special honors at the club meeting Thursday night. She was presented with a corsage, a gift and a decorated cake. She was also the recipient of the C.J. McAleavy Award at the Marathon county 4-H leaders meeting in Wausau the month prior.
Juniors conduct session at Farmers Union meeting
Youth members of the Farmers Union presided over their meeting in Frankfort as part of their study of the “art of meeting.” Rhonda Haas served as president, Ann Schmidt as secretary, and Steve Kunze as legislative director.

Colby group looking at school events on Sundays
The Colby school board’s policy committee instructed school administrators to strengthen a policy prohibiting athletic and play practices and club meetings on Sundays.
Falcons win second state volleyball title in a row
Abbotsford defeated Seneca 3-1 in Neenah in the Division 4 state final, delivering a 15-1 blowout in the fourth set to claim their second straight title.
