Greenwood-Loyal drama advances Greenwood-Loyal drama advances

This is the first year of a collaboration of extra-curricular activities for the Greenwood and Loyal school districts. Greenwood is the host for the WISDAA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech and Dramatic Arts Association) one-act theater competition.

Twenty students from both districts are participating to bring to life the drama called “Social Pariahs” by Jared Mallard.

This drama takes place in current times and is a portrait of how your first love can affect your life, no matter how old you grow. It is a story of how teenage sorrow, bravery and beauty can stay with you forever.

“Having graduated nine seniors last year, Greenwood has a younger cast with only one senior, Mason Stieglitz. Loyal brought talented Lydia Vircks, April Perez Perez and Sam Luttrop in senior leadership roles,” director Jo Elmer of Greenwood wrote in an Oct. 23 press release.

The joint cast advanced through districts held at Eau Claire’s Regis High School on Oct. 16, scoring an average of 2.42 out of 3 possible points. The sectional competition is scheduled for Oct. 31 at the Pablo Confluence Center in Eau Claire. A required 2.4 out of 3 is needed to advance to the state competition held this year at the UW-Green Bay campus Nov. 17-18.

Elmer is being assisted by teacher Erik Adams from Loyal. Although Loyal has not competed for several years, Greenwood has been to the state competition the last three years: virtually during COVID-19 and in person the last two years, winning numerous awards. The production of “Social Pariahs” will be performed for the community on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood cafetorium.
