Colby man dies in one-vehicle accident

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a single-vehicle crash at approximately 7:04 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, near the intersection of County Hwy. N and Aspen Drive in the Town of Wien. As a result of the crash, a single male occupant, Samuel Cruz Castro, 18 of Colby, was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On June 11, the Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office notified the sheriff’s department that Cruz Castro had died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing at this time. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Edgar Police Department, Edgar EMS and the Marathon County Communications Center during the response.
