One dead in single-vehicle crash Monday

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a traffic accident near the intersection of Hickory Road and Hwy. 13, just north of Dorchester, around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 14.

The vehicle left the roadway and traveled over a ditch before hitting a tree in the yard of a residence on Hwy. 13. Four people were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident according to Central Fire and EMS District chief Joe Mueller. The three other occupants of the vehicle were taken by ambulance to a local hospital and were in unknown condition.

Central Fire and EMS and the Colby/ Abby Police Department were the first to arrive on-scene. Traffic on Hwy. 13 was cut to one lane for over an hour as crews worked on the scene. Central Fire used the jaws of life to extract the occupants of the vehicle. Other assisting agencies were the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Dispatch.

The accident was one of three crashes that were reported to be in the Central Fire and EMS area on Monday afternoon. Mueller said the district had to call for mutual aid from Athens and Edgar emergency services for an accident that occurred on Hwy. 29 and Townline Road.
